Par—the standard number of strokes to finish a hole
Birdie—one under par
Eagle—two under par
Bogey—one over par
Mulligan—a second chance to perform a stroke

Courses and formats

Links course—a type of course characterized by dunes, sandy soil and an undulating surface
Best Ball—a tournament format where all golfers on a team play their own balls, but the lowest score is counted for each hole
Scramble— a tournament format where all players in a team play from the location of the best shot

Special Deals

Most golf courses offer discount rates for golfers at certain times. Details for time-based rate discounts vary at each course.

Twilight, super twilight—reduced rates for golfers who begin after a certain time in the afternoon
Seniors, juniors—some courses offer reduced rates for players of a certain age
Weekday—rates on weekdays are often lower than on weekends
Winter—some courses lower their rates during colder seasons
