Newly appointed Texas Secretary of State Carlos Cascos stopped in Pearland on the second day of his "Down to Business" tour across Texas on Wednesday morning to speak to city officials and members of the Pearland Chamber of Commerce. In front of a group that included Pearland Mayor Tom Reid, Brazoria County Judge Matt Sebesta and Pearland City Manager Clay Pearson among others, Cascos discussed five qualities needed to continue the economic growth in the city and state. Texas has created the most jobs in the United States since the recession, Cascos said. No aspect in sustaining a strong economy, he said, is more important than infrastructure. Along with infrastructure, Cascos mentioned the significance of education systems, medical facilities and stability within local government to attract residents and businesses. Quality of life also plays a role in enticing people to a city like Pearland, he said. Cascos closed by saying that every region in the state has the potential to prosper economically as long as it can "find [its] niche."
