Georgetown City Council unanimously approved an ordinance March 10 that prohibits the intentional feeding of deer within the city limits. Councilman Jerry Hammerlun was not in attendance.


Councilman Keith Brainard, who introduced the ordinance said deer can be a hazard to motorists on city roadways as well as can carry diseases and be dangerous.

The ordinance will be complaint driven and enforced by the city’s Code Enforcement Department, he said.

Fines for violations of the ordinance can range from $75-$125.

According to the ordinance the city will establish an education program as well.
