The Frisco RoughRiders, the Double-A baseball affiliate of the Texas Rangers, have unveiled a new team identity and some major upgrades to the Dr Pepper Ballpark that will be in place by opening day April 9.
The new RoughRiders logo features "Swinging Teddy Roosevelt"—a nod to the history behind the team name.
The Rough Riders, which included former President Roosevelt, was a volunteer group of cavalry soldiers in the Spanish-American War of 1898 that made major contributions to key battles in Cuba.
"We know the real Rough Riders have a tremendous legacy right here in this region, but we felt that over the years that had been lost a little bit," CEO and Managing Partner Chuck Greenberg said. "We decided to go deep and by going deep we wanted to reconnect the franchise with the heroic legacy of the original Rough Rider Teddy Roosevelt with the Rough Riders themselves and take great care to be true to the history of the Rough Riders, of Teddy and of the region."
The new team identity includes uniforms that incorporate the team's new colors of scorched red, cream, slate blue and Texas navy. Ballpark upgrades
Greenberg said the Dr Pepper Ballpark was a remarkable facility when it opened 12 years ago.
"But times change, and it is time to think about how to refresh things," he said.
Greenberg said the success of the ballpark "begins, continues and ends" with making it the best fan experience possible.
The highlight of the improvements to the 12-year-old stadium is a 2,700-square-foot high-definition video board, which is more than five times larger than the previous video board.
New outfield wall LED signage is being installed, which includes a new left field digital scoreboard display.
Other changes include an area behind third base that will be transformed into a space inspired by the State Fair of Texas. It will feature a rotating series of locally operated food trucks and other fair-themed portables and include carnival games for children and adults and an enhanced playground area.
The improved InTouch Grille will be relocated to the right field corner of the ballpark and will include new food options. A new open-air sports bar will replace the area that was formerly the Riders Team Store, and a new team merchandise store will be opened near the home plate entrance.
Upgraded food will be available throughout the ballpark.
The home and visitors clubhouses will also receive an overhaul.
