The Georgetown Animal Shelter has postponed its annual fundraiser because of major renovations to its facility. Art for Animals, which was scheduled for Feb. 7, has been moved to May 9. The shelters renovations will displace staff for 10 days from Jan 16-26. During this time the floors will be sandblasted and resurfaces, and the interior of the building will be repainted. Normally we are accepting and storing a lot of art and other donations in the weeks leading up to Art for Animals, and that just isnt practical this year, Shelter Manager Jackie Carey said in a statement. Art donations will continue to be accepted from Feb. 2 until April 17. Friends of the Georgetown Animal Shelter, which sponsors the event, is also accepting donations such as hand-crafted items, jewelry, gift baskets and travel packages to be auctioned at the event. The shelter has also decided to postpone its garage sale, which will be held in September rather than the spring. For more information about the shelter and its events, visit www.pets.georgetown.org.
