The event this year will include artwork for sale from 92 contributors, said Patti Shampton, executive director of Chula League, an East Austin nonprofit art advocacy group that hosts the annual art fair. During a Dec. 11 Austin City Council proclamation recognizing Cherrywood Art Fair, Shampton said the event started as only four art vendors as has rapidly grown the past couple years in much the same way as East Austin.
The two-day event benefits the Big Artist arts mentoring program, which connects East Austin fifth- and sixth-grade students with professional artists for 10 weeks. The program culminates in a spring art show
"It's a real art show, and those kids are so excited to see their art up there in a public space where people can see it," Shampton said. "And the big artists are reminded how cool it is to make a piece of art and see that progress through a children's perspective."

DEC. 12-14—Austin Trail of Lights, a two-week holiday attraction at Zilker Park, 2201 Barton Springs Road, continues through the weekend—but at a cost. Attendees may either pay $3 for admission or $15 for a ZiP Fast Pass to cut to the front of the line. Attendees age 12 and under enter the 1.25–mile lights trail free. DEC. 13—The ninth annual Carnival O' Pizza, a free, family-friendly event that benefits Austin Bat Cave, was rescheduled from Nov. 22 at Home Slice, 1415 S. Congress Ave. The customer appreciation event, which takes place from noon to 7 p.m., includes carnival-inspired games, booths, music, dancing, photo booths, raffles and various contests—including a pizza-eating race, dough toss, pizza folding competition and a Home Slice walk-a-thon. The event in the past eight years has raised more than $110,000 for Austin Bat cave, a nonprofit that helps children ages 6–18 develop their writing skills. www.homeslicepizza.com
DEC. 13—The sixth annual Santa Pub Crawl takes place along downtown Sixth Street, with anticipated stops at The Ranch, 710 W. Sixth St., Concrete Cowboy, 719 W. Sixth St., and Parish, 214 E. Sixth St., between 4–7 p.m. The crawl, which benefits Austin Sunshine Camps, a nonprofit that helps underprivileged children attend summer camp, costs $20—drinks not included—and includes drink specials at each stop. Boss Street Brass Band performs at the first venue, while two DJs spin music at the final two stops. Registration is $20 per person or $25 the day of the event. www.santapubcrawlaustin.com
DEC. 14—The annual Chanukah in the Hood celebration hosted by the Jewish Community Association of Austin includes food, activities, and arts and crafts.
