Grapevine has instituted a new level of protection against solicitors knocking on doors after City Council approved a new ordinance at its June 3 meeting.

The ordinance created a Do-Not Solicit List that calls for a $500 fine for solicitors who knock on doors of residences.

The ordinance states the City Council "endeavors to allow people to be free from interruption at home and to have comfort that unknown persons will not come up to their door and disturb them while at home with their families."

That rule change augmented previously existing regulations that require solicitors to obtain permits and limits soliciting from 9 a.m. to dusk.

Mona Burk, Grapevine spokeswoman, said existing rules still apply to individuals age 16 and younger, who must be accompanied by adults at least 18 years old to solicit within the city, unless they have been invited on to the premises.
