The Kyle Area Chamber of Commerce is slated to host on April 22 a candidate forum for the city's upcoming election.
Running concurrently with the chamber's luncheon, the event will see candidates engaging with the audience in a question-and-answer-style forum but will not be a debate, said chamber CEO Julie Snyder.
"Our goal is to get to know (the candidates) and get to know where they stand on the issues facing Kyle and our region," Snyder said.
Invited candidates include the three mayoral hopefuls: former Mayor James Adkins and former councilmen Todd Webster and Bradley Pickett. Also invited are District 2 incumbent Becky Selbera and her challenger, Jaime Sanchez, as well as District 4 Councilman David Wilson and his opponent, Laurie Luttrell.
Snyder said all of the candidates, with the exception of Selbera, have confirmed they will attend the forum. She said Selbera will not be in attendance because of a work conflict.
The chamber provided candidates with questions in advance of the forum so as to help them prepare, Snyder said. Afterward, chamber members will receive copies of their responses via the chamber's electronic newsletter.
Each candidate will be provided time to make opening and closing statements, which will bookend a set of three questions each candidate will respond to.
The League of Women Voters of the Austin Area will moderate the forum, Snyder said.
The event is at Texas Old Town – Sage Hall, 1205 Roland Lane, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
The chamber is still accepting reservations for the event, but food is not guaranteed to be available for late registrants, Snyder said. Admission is $15 for members and $20 for non-members.
Attendees are asked not to bring certain paraphernalia or wear clothing supporting any one candidate or party.
Community Impact Newspaper will provide live coverage of the forum on Twitter @impactnews_sbk.
Early voting for the city of Kyle races as well as San Marcos CISD and Hays CISD takes place April 28–May 6. Election day is May 10.
