District to use interest from Permanent School Fund for project
The Lake Travis ISD board of trustees approved the construction of security fencing at several LTISD campuses at its Dec. 17 meeting. The construction is funded through interest earnings from the Travis County Permanent School Fund.
Travis County owns more than 18,000 acres of land, which is held in trust, in Throckmorton County, Texas, and revenue is deposited into the PSF endowment. Interest earnings from the PSF are periodically distributed to public schools in Travis County and can be used to reduce bond debt or make public improvements. LTISD received $155,064 from the PSF in August.
"These funds will be used to improve security fencing at Bee Cave, Lake Pointe and Lakeway elementary schools and Hudson Bend Middle School," LTISD Superintendent Brad Lancaster said in a news release. "Specifically, the work includes the replacement of 4-foot [tall] fencing with 6-foot fencing as well as the installation of new 6-foot fencing in areas that can be better secured to protect our students and staff."
Work on the fencing will begin in February and will be mostly completed by the end of March, Lancaster said.
