After more than a decade working for a golf course, Patrice Stutes wanted a change. She wanted to work for herself and do what she loves: baking. A resident of Spring, she searched for a nearby, small community on the verge of growing. She picked Magnolia, and nearly three years ago, she opened up Double P Bakery.

"I wanted to have a cute, little, quaint bakery," she said. "I wanted to be able to keep my business very personal rather than commercialized."

Double P Bakery boasts a number of dessert items, such as cupcakes, cookies, cake pops, brownies and more. All items at the bakery can be purchased as single-item orders or in bulk orders for events, such as weddings, birthdays, engagement parties or business events.

"No other place in town does what we do," Stutes said. "People who are looking for smaller products like cookies, cupcakes or cake pops come here."

For all the dessert items the store offers, none are more popular than the sugar cookie, Stutes said.

Stutes, who does the majority of the baking at the store, hand decorates her cookies, custom makes cookie cutters and uses her own recipe. Stutes said there is nothing she cannot create with a sugar cookie.

"I can customize any logo or picture on a sugar cookie," she said. "Pretty much anything you can dream up, or find on the Internet, I can make those dreams come true."

For Stutes it is not just about offering sweet treats that are original, it is also about keeping her business personal, maintaining high quality and building relationships within the community.

"I didn't get into this to turn into a large corporation or franchise," she said. "I got into it to keep the quality high and to have more personal relationships. I want it to be like the old days where you keep things simple and people come in just to say hi."
