Shop welcomes customers with affordable, high-end products—and free snacks

When Cal Williams and John Dotson opened Revolution Home in February 2012, they began with two clear goals: to offer high-quality home decor products at reasonable prices and to create a welcoming space for customers and friends alike.

Literal "Welcome" signs hang from several spots in the 2,850-square-foot shop, and customers are greeted at one entrance by a black metal frog holding another "Welcome" sign above its head.

The men make sure the store's refrigerator is stocked with free beverages for customers. Free cookies and snacks fill two baskets along one wall while two courtyards offer a place for visitors to relax.

Williams said the response from the community has been overwhelmingly positive.

"What really surprises me is the community and the support of the community. They kind of take an ownership in helping the store be successful," Williams said.

Revolution holds events on the third Saturday of each month featuring live music, food and drinks; Dotson said 60–70 people attended the most recent gathering in March.

"We're friends with a lot of people out here now, truly friends with them," he said.
