The City of Magnolia will hold a public hearing on the details of its comprehensive plan March 28 at Magnolia City Hall. The plan lays out a guideline for the city through the next 20–30 years, covering areas such as neighborhood development, community mobility and parks and amenities.
The public hearing is meant to serve as an opportunity for residents to learn more about the contents of the plan before it's placed in front of the Magnolia City Council to vote on, said Liz Probst, a consultant with Kendig Keast Collaborative hired to help draft the plan.
"We're trying to make sure the community develops at a standard that meets current and future expectations," Probst said. "Tomorrow night is an opportunity for the city to provide an overview and to generate additional input."
Among the top priorities laid out in the plan are building a better road network and developing a new "Magnolia Unity Plaza" to function as a town center, said Deborah Rose Miller, Magnolia's economic development coordinator. Proposed locations for Unity Plaza include the open area between City Hall and Magnolia Ridge, but nothing has been set in stone.
Probst said working with the community has been a priority from the start.
"I think the plan development process has been really successful in garnering widespread participation," she said. "We tackled a number of core community issues both internally and through public involvement and we are excited about the final product."
The public hearing will take place at 4:30 p.m. at Magnolia City Hall, 18111 Buddy Riley Blvd., Magnolia.
