Cedar Park City Council members will pick their next colleague Jan. 10 as part of the group's regularly scheduled meeting.
Council will select the next Place 3 council member to replace Scott Mitchell, who announced Nov. 29 he had to step down because of work-related travel that will take him out of the country for approximately six months. Mitchell officially ended his nine-year tenure as councilman Dec. 13, allowing council 30 days to appoint his replacement. The council seat will be chosen by the general public during the May 11 city election.
The five candidates, Lyle Grimes, Dr. Mo Jahadi, Homer Rocha, Scott Rogers and Corbin Van Arsdale, submitted application information before the Dec. 31 deadline.
Four of the five candidates, Jahadi, Rocha, Rogers and Van Arsdale, ran previously to replace Tony Dale, who stepped down Nov. 13 after winning the election for the newly created Texas House of Representatives District 136 seat. Jon Lux, former Planning and Zoning Commission chairman, was appointed to the Place 5 seat during the Dec. 1 special meeting.
The meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 10. According to the agenda, council members will meet in executive session before making a final decision.
