WilCo history museum launches new artifact program

In order to shine some light on historical pieces in its collection, The Williamson Museum is launching an Artifact of the Month program Jan. 4 from 6–8 p.m.

During January, the museum will feature an 1875 Geister clock created by Welch, Spring and Co., which the museum has had in its collection since about 2005, curator Ann Evans said.

The idea for the program has been discussed for a while, she said, adding that she hopes it gives exposure to lesser-known objects in the museum's collection.

Evans said the program is meant to help "people to see what we really do collect and want to preserve," including photos and artifacts that tell the general story of Williamson County's culture and history.

Upcoming items, which will be unveiled on the first Friday of each month, vary and sometimes correspond with monthly themes, Evans said, including cake toppers for February and World War II items for an exhibit opening in May.

The museum is located at 716 S. Austin Ave. in Georgetown.
