The faith-based nonprofit Grapevine Relief and Community Exchange, more commonly known as GRACE, recently celebrated 25 years of providing relief and emergency services for Grapevine, Colleyville and Southlake residents.
Leaders from the three cities on April 26 presented proclamations congratulating the nonprofit for serving its residents.
"It is estimated that Grace programs have touched over 100,000 citizens in 25 years, including 38,604 services valued at $1.6 million directly impacting the lives of over 4,000 individuals in 2011," Grapevine Assistant City Manager Jennifer Hibbs read from a proclamation.
North East Emergency Distribution, or N.E.E.D., a coalition of more than 40 churches, provided $2,000 in seed money to help Grace begin operations in September 1987. At the time, people often visited different churches to meet their basic needs.
Today, Grace provides a variety of programs and services, including emergency financial assistance, transitional housing, senior assistance, community health clinic, a clothing room and a client choice food pantry.
