Achieving Community Together, a "town-gown" partnership between the City of San Marcos and Texas State University, has been selected as the 2012 Association of College Unions International Collaborative Program of the Year.
ACT works to promote a positive relationship between permanent and student residents through education, community connectedness and shared resources.
According to information provided by the city, ACT was created in 2008 from a plan to reduce noise in neighborhoods, particularly noise from loud parties and disturbances late at night.
The project was led by representatives from the San Marcos Police Department and from the Vice President for Student Affairs Office and the LBJ Student Center at Texas State University. ACT was recognized in 2009 with the Texas Municipal League Municipal Excellence Award in Management Innovations and San Marcos Police Department Distinguished Service Award.
