Texas Department of Transportation work to add capacity, enhance safety is ahead of schedule and more than halfway done

A 1.6-mile project is underway to improve safety and add capacity at the intersection of Business 114 between Byron Nelson Boulevard and Lois Street bridge, continuing just beyond Westlake Parkway/Trophy Club Drive. Westlake Public Works Director Jarrod Greenwood said the project includes:

• Constructing two eastbound and two westbound ground-level main lanes between Lois Street Bridge and just beyond Trophy Lake Drive.
• Constructing two on- and off-ramps going east and westbound elevated over the main lanes.
• Eastbound and westbound traffic will flow freely through all intersections with the completion of the project, Greenwood said.
• Contractor SEMA Construction Inc. will reconstruct the existing roadways into direct-connect ramps, connecting to the main lanes near Trophy Lake Drive.
• According to the Texas Department of Transportation, crews should finish the project in October 2013.
• TxDOT spokeswoman Michelle Releford said the project is more than 50 percent complete and ahead of schedule.
• In late March, crews were working on storm drain and excavation work, and this month planned to pave main lanes on Hwy. 114, Releford said.
• According to TxDOT, the estimated $33 million project is funded entirely by the state through regional toll revenue.
