The Woodlands Township is holding a seminar for its residents in order to instruct them on how to make better, more productive emergency calls.
The topic of the April 25 Watch Talk Wednesday meeting is "What Happens When You Call 911?" Presenters include The Woodlands Fire Department Communications Supervisor Rick Erickson and Montgomery County Communication Supervisors Lt. Joe Sclider and Denise Jimenez.
They will address the process of emergency and non-emergency calls, provide tips on information callers should provide to 911 operators and explain why the process works the way it does.
Marian Leck, the township's director of law enforcement services, gave an example of some of the information that residents can learn at the seminar.
"A lot of people have alarms," Leck said. "Our advice always is, if you can safely call 911, that is much better than hitting the alarm. That way the dispatcher knows exactly what is wrong. By telling the dispatcher what actually is happening, that can change the priority of the call."
The program will be held from noon to 1 p.m. at The Woodlands Township Town Hall Rooms 150/152 at 2801 Technology Forest Blvd.
Watch Talk Wednesday is a program of The Woodlands Township and is typically held the fourth Wednesday of each month. The programs provide residents with information on crime prevention practices and resources, along with general safety information.
