Lewisville, Coppell to participate in holiday cooking grease, oil roundup

Lewisville and Coppell residents are encouraged to recycle used holiday cooking oil and grease for free during the North Texas Holiday Grease Roundup.

The two cities are participating in the annual event, which runs through Jan. 9.

Lewisville residents looking to get rid of Thanksgiving grease can drop it off at the Steven L. Bacchus Public Services Center between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and 8-11 a.m. on Friday. The center is located at 1100 N. Kealy Ave.

Coppell residents can visit the Coppell Service Center, located at 816 Coppell Road, or Coppell Village Parkway Pump Station at 1101 Village Parkway. Both facilities are available for collection 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Fried and buttery foods can be hard on pipes and sewer systems. Washing fats, oils and grease down the drain can cause clogs and sewer backups and lead to costly repairs, according to Defend Your Drains North Texas.

The used cooking oil and grease collected during the roundup will be used to create biodiesel or turned into biogas for energy production.

The collection is for cooking oil and grease only. Motor oil and other automotive fluids are not accepted.
