Plano water, sewer and trash rates to increase Oct. 1

Plano residents can expect to see higher prices on their water, sewage and trash bills after Oct. 1.

What residents should know

The average resident using 10,000 gallons of water, 7,000 gallons of wastewater and a 95-gallon cart will see a $16 increase on their total monthly utility bill, according to a city news release.

The new rates are part of a three-year plan to mitigate an 8% cost increase from the North Texas Municipal Water District, per previous reporting. The city first phased in one-third of the necessary wholesale rate in FY 2024-25 and has now approved its full wholesale rate for FY 2026-27, according to the presentation.

NewGen Strategies and Solutions LLC provided a presentation about the city's water rates at a budget work session Aug. 13.

Director of Budget and Research Karen Rhodes-Whitley said while most city budgets were not approved at the time of the meeting, the city expects to have a lower water rate than other nearby cities. Both McKinney and Frisco approved 9% water rate increases for FY 2026-27, per previous reporting.
