Texas Woman’s University saw an overall increase in enrollment for the fall 2026 semester compared to the fall 2025 semester, and the University of North Texas experienced an increase in new freshmen and transfer students in that same time period.
The impact
TWU witnessed an overall 5.9% increase in student enrollment to 16,412 students, which is its second-highest enrollment ever, according to a release from the university. The highest enrollment in university history was 16,441 in 2020.
“These data points demonstrate Texas Woman’s is increasing access for students, ensuring they persist through college, accelerating their time to degree and that a growing number of them are graduating with zero debt,” TWU Chancellor Carine Feyten said.
Nearly 50% of TWU students graduated without student debt in spring 2026, according to previous reporting.
UNT reported that 42,016 students were enrolled this semester, including 6,388 freshmen and 3,434 new transfer students, according to a news release from the university. This is an overall 9.57% increase from fall 2025.
“We are grateful for the students choosing to attend UNT and are preparing them for success beyond their time on our campuses. Our enrollment this year provides us with great momentum for the future as we work to expand the talent pipeline for the state of Texas,” UNT President Harrison Keller said.

UNT also saw an increase in campus enrollment at its Frisco location with 3,377 students enrolled in courses, a record number for that campus, according to a news release.
There are 240 academic programs across UNT campuses for students to choose from, including new degree programs like a bachelor’s in artificial intelligence, Community Impact previously reported.
The total number of students enrolled at UNT is a decrease from 43,567 in fall 2025, mostly due to a loss of more than 1,300 international students, according to previous reporting.
At TWU, the group that saw the largest jump in enrollment was the first-time-in-college cohort, which saw a 22% increase from fall 2025. A release states undergraduate enrollment grew by 8.1% while graduate enrollment at the university’s campuses in Denton, Dallas and Houston grew by 1.9%.
The total enrollment at TWU for the fall 2025 semester was 15,424, according to the university’s website.
