TRANSPORTATION UPDATES FM 1488 overpass[/caption]



1. FM 1488 overpass


Texas Department of Transportation crews are making progress on a project that will widen FM 1488 from two to four lanes and build a railroad overpass on FM 1488 near the FM 149 intersection. The project is intended to help alleviate traffic congestion on FM 1488 near Magnolia High School and will also make it possible for commuters to cross the railroad tracks without interruption. The project has reached 34 percent completion.
Timeline: December 2015-fourth quarter 2017
Cost: $27.6 million

2.  Egypt Lane widening


The project will widen a half-mile stretch of Egypt Lane from Research Forest Drive to FM 1488 from two to four lanes with a center-turn lane. A storm sewer system will be installed to replace the existing drainage ditches.
Timeline: summer 2016-TBD
Cost: $1.8 million
Funding sources: Westwood Magnolia Parkway Improvement District



3. Copperhead Road


The proposed 3.5-mile road extension will create a two-lane road connecting Nichols Sawmill to Sanders Cemetery roads north of FM 2920. Montgomery County officials are working with engineers to finalize design plans. Construction is expected to be complete by the fourth quarter of 2016.

4A. FM 2978 widening


Work on the southern portion of FM 2978, from Hufsmith Conroe Road to Dry Creek, will begin this spring. The project will widen the road from two to four lanes with a center-turn lane and 5-foot shoulders. Construction is expected to take 18 months to complete.



4B. FM 2978 widening


Construction on the northern segment, from Dry Creek to FM 1488, is expected to begin later this year. The Dry Creek bridge will be replaced, and the road will be widened from two to four lanes to match the southern portion. The project is expected to take 30 months to complete once construction begins.

5. Kuykendahl Road Segment D1

The project will widen Kuykendahl Road between Indian Hill Road and Timarron Drive from two to four lanes. The contractor—4-C Construction Services—was given the notice to proceed with construction in February.

6. Improvements at Hufsmith-Kohrville and Holderrieth roads


Designs for a traffic signal and intersection improvements are being finalized by the Tomball Economic Development Corporation before they are sent to the county. Harris County expects to send the project out for bid in the fourth quarter of 2016.
