Magnolia nonprofit Ruby’s Home For Good is celebrating its five-year anniversary Oct. 1 with a celebration event at Unity Park in Magnolia.

“It’s pretty amazing,” Program Director Erin Malia said. “We started off with an idea about how we could help our community, and to see all that’s gone into [it] and the community relationships and the partnerships we’ve had that makes it work has been really rewarding.”

The nonprofit, which officially started Sept. 28, 2017, aims to improve the lives of horses in need and promote mutually beneficial relationships between people and horses, Malia said.

“What that ends up looking like is it’s a dual mission,” Malia said. “We want to help people and help horses, and we promote an environment that’s beneficial for both. So we bring together horses that have potentially suffered or not been well-cared for, and we teach people about what it takes to do well by them, and in the meantime, we’re helping people grow in their own wellness and experiences through their experience with the horses.”

The celebration event, doubling as a fundraiser for the nonprofit, will include a silent auction, food and activities. An anonymous donor will match up to $5,000 in funds raised through the event, Malia said.
