The AABY Foundation will be entering a new chapter as the ABBY Foundation, an acronym that stands for Animals Better By You, said Juanita Zavala, the organization's clinic coordinator.
How we got here
The AABY Foundation was created in 2004 by Kay Pass, who opened a thrift store to help fund the organization’s mission of helping animals and their owners, as previously reported by Community Impact.
Pass worked to help animals in the local area and across the Houston region for many years, Zavala said. However, Pass is now experiencing health issues and had to step away from the organization.
In August, AABY’s thrift store located at 22558 Community Drive in New Caney closed, Zavala said.
Going forward
The nonprofit’s services—such as hosting low-cost pet vaccination events and helping people experiencing homelessness and their pets—will continue, Zavala said. The same nonprofit leaders and board members will work under the new ABBY organization.
The new ABBY Foundation will be launching on Oct. 10, the same day that the organization will be hosting a low-cost pet vaccination event in coordination with Alaska's Hope, Petco Love and Three Little Pitties. At the event, dogs and cats can receive immunizations such as the rabies vaccine. Free microchipping will also be available.
