Conroe ISD campuses and district offices will remain closed Sept. 20 following a day of severe weather and power outages in Montgomery County. After-school high school activities were not canceled by Friday morning, and the district said a decision would be made on whether to hold those events by noon.

CISD was one of several regional entities to close Sept. 19 due to the effects of Tropical Storm Imelda that caused some flooding and road closures in the region. The severe weather resulted in state disaster declarations throughout Greater Houston, including Montgomery County.

“We’re not here to destroy our property or destroy our community. We just overcame coronavirus by our businesses being shut down,” Johnson said. “Destroying our property, going and vandalizing things is not the way. Coming together as a unit, making sure our community is stronger, that’s all we can do.”
