State and local officials have issued disaster declarations Sept. 19 following continuous rains throughout the day.
Gov. Greg Abbott issued a declaration Thursday afternoon, stating severe weather and flooding has caused extensive property damage in Brazoria, Chambers, Galveston, Hardin, Harris, Jasper, Jefferson, Liberty, Matagorda, Montgomery, Newton, Orange and San Jacinto counties.
“I authorize the use of all available resources of state government and of political subdivisions that are reasonably necessary to cope with this disaster,” Abbott wrote in a press release.
Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo tweeted she is also issuing a disaster declaration for her county.
“This disaster declaration will allow us to ensure we have the maximum flexibility we need to respond and recover from this disaster,” Hidalgo wrote.
