With all election day precincts reporting in Montgomery County, the three incumbents in the Magnolia ISD board of trustees races on May 7 will retain their seats on the board.

Position 1 incumbent Dacia Owens received 1,767 votes, or 61.31% of the votes, winning her seat, while challenger Irma Dunmire received 705 votes, or 24.46% of the vote. Jordan Miles, who withdrew from the race but remained on the ballot, received 410 votes, or 14.23% of votes cast.

Owens did not immediately respond to a message requesting comment on election night. Owens has also previously served as president of Magnolia Education Foundation, according to a previous interview with Community Impact Newspaper.

In the Position 2 race, incumbent Sonja Ebel received 1,767 votes, or 61.33% of votes cast, while challenger Sharon Craig received 788, or 27.35% of votes cast, and Debbie Crawford received 326 votes, or 11.32% of votes cast.


Ebel said in a phone interview on election night she hopes to continue to keep MISD as a good place to raise a family.

"Magnolia is a wonderful place to raise a family, and I want to continue to make it a great place to raise our kids," Ebel said.

She said she moved to Magnolia in 2010 from Houston.

"We have fallen in love with the community," she said.


Ebel said growth will continue to be a major issue for the board to follow in the coming years.

"Probably the biggest issue Is the growth that Magnolia is expecting; the school board is getting ready to handle the growth to keep Magnolia a wonderful place to live and raise children," she said.

In the Position 3 race, incumbent Gary Blizzard received 1,843 votes, or 63.75% of the votes cast, to challenger Keith Grant's 1,048 votes, 36.25% of the votes.

Blizzard did not immediately return a call for comment on election night. Blizzard previously told Community Impact Newspaper he has served on the MISD Parent Leadership Committee in addition to his experience as a trustee.

Early voting results on May 7 show the three incumbents are in the lead for their respective positions in Magnolia ISD, where positions 1, 2 and 3 were on the ballot.

Among Position 1 candidates, incumbent Dacia Owens received 1,335 votes, or 65.19% of the vote, in early voting results. Challenger Irma Dunmire received 436 votes, or 21.29% of the vote, and Jordan Miles, who withdrew from the race, received 277 votes, or 13.53% of the vote.


Three Position 2 candidates are vying for the position, and incumbent Sonja Ebel, received 1,339 votes in early voting, or 65.19% of the vote. Challenger Sharon Craig received 505 votes, or 24.59% of the vote, and challenger and Debbie Crawford received 210 votes, or 10.22%.

Among the Position 3 candidates, incumbent Gary Blizzard received 1,357 votes, or 65.84% of the vote, and challenger Keith Grant received 704 votes, or 34.16% of the vote.
