Oak Ridge North Police Chief Andy Walters announced through the city's Facebook page Monday that he will be retiring at the end of this year.

Walters said in a written statement to the city of Oak Ridge North that he has enjoyed working with his fellow officers over the last 30 years and appreciates the relationships he has made. He has been with the city of Oak Ridge North since 1988. His last day as police chief for the city is expected to be December 31.

"I’ve had the honor of serving and protecting your families, your homes and your businesses," Walters said. "I’ve been a police officer for over 40 years total, and to quote Augustus McCrae…'It’s been one hell of a party.' I’ve enjoyed it. But now’s it's the time to part trails and ride off. I appreciate the friends I’ve made. I love y’all. You’ve been good to me and I’ll forever appreciate that."
