Fort Bend County Judge KP George signed a declaration of local disaster for public health emergency statement March 12.

The county had the first presumptive positive case in Texas, and the count is now up to six cases. With evidence of community spread in Texas, this declaration serves to protect vulnerable residents, according to a release from the judge.

This declaration will be in place for no more than seven days unless it is renewed by the Commissioners Court.

George will hold a press conference at 2 p.m. March 12 along with county representatives from the health and human services and homeland security & emergency management department.
