Fort Bend ISD has announced it is looking for community partners to provide no-cost materials and resources to support the district’s abuse-prevention programs.

The Nov. 15 announcement follows a resolution adopted by the district's board of trustees Nov. 15 directing the district’s School Health Advisory Council to review and recommend course materials FBISD can use to teach and encourage the prevention of child abuse, family violence, dating violence and sex trafficking, according to the announcement.

The resolution comes in the wake of state legislation introduced during the 87th Texas Legislature in 2021 that requires public school districts to determine the content of their instruction on abuse prevention.

The advisory council serves as a recommending body to the board of trustees, who will be tasked with recommending appropriate grade levels and curriculum “including likely warning signs that a child may be at risk for sex trafficking, provided that the local school health advisory council's recommendations under this subdivision do not conflict with the essential knowledge and skills developed by the State Board of Education under this subchapter,” according to the legislation.

Meanwhile, FBISD is asking those community organizations interested in providing prevention support materials at no cost to the district should complete its Prevention Support Material Interest Request Form to express interest and learn more about the adoption process.

Forms must be completed by Dec. 2 at 4 p.m.
