Wyatt opposed the idea. He stated similar concerns during the resolution’s first reading Nov. 7. “Even though Ruben was all those things that everybody probably said, Ruben did not perform a service to Missouri City,” Wyatt said. “He may have performed a service to individuals, but he didn't enforce traffic or do anything like that in the city.” Wyatt said he wanted to see a street naming policy put in place first. He also said Davis had previously threatened to sue the city over a dispute regarding one of Davis’ campaigns for re-election. Wyatt did not say when the lawsuit was threatened. Some in attendance criticized Wyatt for his resistance. Residents, including Cynthia Bennett and Rosalind Cash, spoke in favor of the renaming, saying Davis had been helpful and well-liked in the community. "When it came to @MissouriCityTX , Ruben Davis was there."
