On July 16, nonprofit Hearts of Rescue relaunched, shifting its focus to providing mobile shower services to unhoused community members in the Spring area, according to CEO and founder Demetria "Dee" Qualls. Hearts of Rescue—created in 2010—now aims to provide people in need with a chance to shower, a change of clothes and hygiene kits.
"We wanted to provide the homeless the opportunity to regain some dignity and hope by being clean," Qualls said via email. "Cleanliness also supports better health and self-care."
The organization sets up twice per month at
Bammel Church of Christ’s Manna Pantry—located at 2700 FM 1960, Houston—picks up individuals from
Hope Center Houston and holds service events throughout the year. Previously, the organization's aim was to provide food and clothes to local homeless shelters, Qualls said. 713-534-9703.
