Spring- and Klein-area residents are earning more money in 2023 compared to five years prior, according to new data from the U.S. Census Bureau.

The U.S. Census Bureau released new five-year data for 2023 on Dec. 12 as part of its American Community Survey. The new data represents a five-year estimate of the population across the country from 2019 to 2023, according to the census website.

This data compares with the 2018 survey results, which studied the country from 2014 to 2018.

Six ZIP codes make up Community Impact’s Spring and Klein coverage area: 77068, 77069, 77070, 77379, 77388 and 77389. The median incomes for all six ZIP codes increased from 2018 to 2023, according to the survey results.
The ZIP code with the biggest income jump was 77389, rising from a median income of $125,781 in 2018 to $145,228 in 2023. Alternatively, 77068 saw the least change in median income, rising from $81,728 in 2018 to $85,873 in 2023.


According to bureau data, the median income of Spring and Klein residents:
  • Rose 5.1% from 2018 to 2023 for 77068
  • Rose 9.2% from 2018 to 2023 for 77069
  • Rose 8.2% from 2018 to 2023 for 77070
  • Rose 8.5% from 2018 to 2023 for 77379
  • Rose 12.3% from 2018 to 2023 for 77388
  • Rose 15.5% from 2018 to 2023 for 77389
In other news

In the six ZIP codes that make up the Spring and Klein area, the percentage of residents over the age of 25 who earned high school degrees or higher or a Bachelor’s degree or higher remained relatively unchanged from 2018 to 2023, bureau data shows.

For residents who hold a high school diploma or higher, the percentage decreased from 94.1% in 2018 to 93.4% in 2023. The percentage of residents with a Bachelor’s degree or higher decreased from 44.5% in 2018 to 44.2% in 2023.
According to bureau data, the number of residents over the age of 25 who earned a high school diploma or higher:

  • Rose from 12,825 in 2018 to 13,267 in 2023 for 77069

  • Fell from 50,819 in 2018 to 50,803 in 2023 77379
  • Rose from 29,386 in 2018 to 31,362 in 2023 for 77388
  • Rose from 21,429 in 2018 to 26,075 in 2023 for 77389
Meanwhile, the number of residents over the age of 25 who earned a Bachelor’s degree or higher:
