4. A bill that would prevent Harris County from moving forward with its $105 million
Astrodome repurposing plan without voter approval is one step closer to becoming law. The bill passed the Senate on March 29 and will now go before the House. Authored by state Sen. John Whitmire, D-Houston, the bill would prevent Harris County from moving forward with any improvement or redevelopment to the facility costing $10 million or more in county revenue. If signed into law, Harris County residents—including residents in the Village of Creekside Park—could have a say regarding the project during a future election.
5. Performances of
'Dancing at Lughnasa' by Brian Field, presented by Playhouse 1960, begin Friday at 8 p.m. The play is directed by Meredith Ann Gaines. 8 p.m. (Fri.-Sat.). $15 (student and senior), $18 (adult). Playhouse 1960, 6814 Gant Road, Ste. 116, Houston. 281-5878243.
