Here is a look at the week in government, school and business news this week in Pearland and Friendswood.

City & county



  • The Galveston County Commissioner's Court will meet twice this week. It has a regular meeting and budget workshop at 9:30 a.m. Monday and another budget workshop at 9 a.m. Tuesday. The regular meeting agenda includes selecting an engineering firm to evaluate the Dickinson Bayou flood plain and identify detention opportunities.

  • The city of Friendswood's Community and Economic Development Committee will meet at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at City Hall, 910 S. Friendswood Dr., Friendswood.


Schools



  • The Friendswood ISD board of trustees will meet 6:30 p.m. Monday at 402 Laurel Drive, Friendswood. The board will continue discussions on the School Safety Advisory Committee's recommendations.


Community events



  • The Cameron Juniel Project, a nonprofit formed to bring awareness to sudden cardiac arrest, hosts a free heart screening event at the Pearland Recreation Center on Aug. 4. The nonprofit was formed when Cameron Juniel founder Sherri Juniel’s son died at age 20 of cardiac arrest. 4141 Bailey Road, Pearland. Sign up in advance on the event website.


Business updates



  • Central Texas Bar-B-Q Inc. is closed through Monday for annual cleaning and maintenance and will reopen Tuesday. The barbecue restaurant, located at 4110 Broadway St., Pearland, closed July 22. 281-485-9626.


Transportation updates



  • All northbound lanes on I-45 from Loop 610 to Woodridge Drive will be closed from 9 p.m. to 5 am. through Sept. 30.
