Update 9:07 p.m.
Pearland City Council’s seats are full once again following the June 11 runoff elections.
In a lopsided race, candidate Layni Cade came out victorious, garnering 1,501 votes, or 70.28%, over challenger Zach Boyer, who finished with 479, or 24.19%, in the runoff
“I really really want to thank my family and my friends for all their hard work and help for me. They’ve done so much. It has been a year of campaigning,” Cade told Community Impact Newspaper.
During her campaign, Cade said she wanted to focus on public safety, increasing revenue opportunities for the city and finding a solution to the city’s water billing issues.
Cade now joins members Joseph Koza and Jeffrey Barry as new city council members that joined in 2022. Barry and Koza won their seats in the May 7 election. Cade is currently the only woman holding a seat in Pearland City Council. Election results are unofficial until canvassed.
“I have a lot of respect for our city council and for our city staff. I do have a few things in my mind that I think can make Pearland better and I’m coming ready to work,” Cade said.

The race to secure the final seat in Pearland City Council is underway.
Candidate Layni Cade holds a significant early lead in the June 11 runoff election following the release of early voting results by Brazoria County.
Cade has garnered 1,274 votes, or 76.89%, while challenger Zach Boyer has 383, or 23.11%, for Pearland City Council Position 5.
Cade was the overwhelming leader during the May 7 election, as she had secured roughly 46% of the vote in the race for Pearland City Council Position 5, but fell just short of crossing the 50% plus one threshold needed to have been declared the outright winner.
Brazoria County is the only county tracking the Pearland runoff elections, according to the county’s election office. Election results are unofficial until canvassed.
