Students seeking to become certified in computer numerical control, or CNC, will be able to do so at Alvin Community College starting in August.

Registration is now open at ACC located at 3110 Mustang Road, Alvin, for its six-month certification CNC program, the college announced in an Aug. 1 news release. The program had been inactive since before the COVID-19 pandemic and is being brought back, the college’s communication department confirmed.

CNC machinists function in mills and lathes, which are used in industrial construction projects, according to the news release. The skills learned in the ACC program are designed to ensure students are trained in the methods and technology they will experience in the workforce.

Courses for the CNC program will begin at the end of August, according to the release. For more information about the CNC program, call 281-756-3787 or email [email protected].

“We have industry verify the curriculum,” said Sarah Currie, ACC director of business and technical programs. “We need something that is substantial to meet the needs of these industries. We want to get them trained and in the field.”
