The Alvin ISD board of trustees unanimously approved Carol Nelson as the new superintendent for the district at the April 30 meeting, according to a press release from the district. This effectively begins Nelson's role as superintendent. Nelson was approved as the superintendent following a five-month long search for a new superintendent after Buck Gilcrease announced his retirement in November. "I am thankful to the Alvin ISD board of trustees for the opportunity to serve this community and our nearly 26,000 students," Nelson said in a press release from the district. "I look forward to continuing and expanding upon the legacy of excellence that has been established."
