The Pearland ISD trustees appointed new officers to the board during the May 23 meeting following two trustee re-elections and the election of a new trustee. After each trustee election cycle, the board appoints officers to fill the roles of president, vice president and secretary. Rebecca Decker retained her positions as president. Decker will preside over all meetings, appoint committees after consultation with the board, call special meetings and sign all legal documents required by law. Decker was originally elected to the board in 2010 and is serving her third term. Her current term ends in 2019. Charles Gooden, Jr. was re-elected in an uncontested race this May. Gooden was appointed as vice president, succeeding trustee Sean Murphy for the officer position. His duties as vice president will include acting in capacity of the president when Decker is absent as well as monitoring and coordinating the work of communities. Jeff Barry was appointed as secretary, succeeding Lance Botkin for the officer position. Barry was elected to the board in 2016, and his term will end in 2019. As secretary, Barry records meeting minutes and acts as presiding officer in the absence of both the president and vice president. During the May 6 elections, trustee Pamela Boegler was re-elected to serve as longtime trustee Virgil Gant's successor. Gant passed away in a car accident last year, and Pamela was appointed in July to fill his vacancy. She ran in May against two contenders. Previously, Boegler served as a trustee from 2010-2016. PISD trustees also welcomed newcomer Mike Floyd to the board. Floyd is a Glenda Dawson senior and the youngest trustee in Pearland history. He defeated incumbent Rusty DeBorde, who had served on the board for 6 years. “Congratulations to all three of you,” Decker said of the three elected trustees.
