D1 Training, a national gym and fitness program founded by a former professional athlete, has established its first facility in Friendswood.

The details

The Friendswood gym is the first one in Galveston County and the seventh Greater Houston facility, according to an Oct. 16 news release.

Founded in 2001 by former NFL player Will Bartholomew, the group fitness facility employs a sports-science backed training regimen led by certified trainers and is marketed for both youth and adult athletes, per the release.

D1 Training offers four age-based programs, including rookie for ages 7-11, developmental for ages 12-14, prep for ages 15-18 and D1 Adult, per the release. The strategic programs lasts eight weeks, according to its website.

The 54-minute workouts are based on five sports-related tenets:
  • Dynamic warm-up
  • Performance
  • Strength program
  • Core and conditioning
  • Cool down
Outside of group workouts, D1 Training offers one-on-one training with world-class coaches, per the release.

The Friendswood facility is franchised by owner Brandon Britain, whose a native Houstonian. Britain said in the release he aims to bring a place to Friendswood where people of all ages could achieve their fitness goals.

“Not many fitness gyms cater towards children and teens, and those that do often overlook adults," Britain said in a statement. "D1 Training offers group classes for both scholastic-aged children and adults, which is exactly the type of gym I wanted to bring to the area.”
