Splendora ISD officials held a groundbreaking ceremony April 3 for the Greenleaf Elementary School replacement campus, officials announced in a news release.
The details
The roughly $43 million, 130,000-square-foot campus is coming as a part of the district’s $201 million bond election approved in 2022, according to the release.
Robert Arcement, program manager for engineering firm LAN, said the campus will be able to accommodate around 1,000 students. He noted the design of the campus features modernized and flexible classrooms that can accommodate various teaching methods, as well as sustainable elements aimed at reducing the campus’s environmental footprint.
Quote of note
“This new elementary school represents a significant investment in delivering an enhanced learning environment for the Splendora community,” Arcement said.
Some context
The construction of the Greenleaf Elementary School replacement campus is coming about one month before voters will consider SISD's $150 million bond referendum during the May 3 election.
SISD Superintendent Dustin Bromley said the bond is being presented to voters to address fast growth in the district.
According to a January report by demographics firm Population and Survey Analysts, the district’s student population is expected to grow from roughly 5,700 students in the 2024-25 school year to roughly 16,000 students in the 2033-34 school year.
What’s next
SISD officials said the Greenleaf Elementary School replacement campus is scheduled to open for the spring 2026 semester.
