Humble ISD trustees will consider calling for a bond election at their Feb. 15 board meeting to help finance the construction of several new facilities as well as the implementation of technology improvements throughout the district.

If trustees call for the bond election, voters will have the chance to approve the measure during the May 7 election.

During the board’s Jan. 11 meeting, the HISD 2021-22 Citizens Bond Advisory Committee presented several options for what would have amounted to a $750 million bond package.

According to HISD Chief Communication Officer Jamie Mount, the bond proposal is split into two propositions. Proposition A relates to proposed facilities improvements, while Proposition B relates to technology expenditures.

Mount said the exact financial amount that will be included in each proposition would be discussed by trustees before a vote is held to consider calling for the bond election.

The projects that are featured in the bond proposal include:

  • a new Mosaic Program building, which would serve students with disabilities ages 18-22;

  • new Educational Support Services offices;

  • phases 2 and 3 of Humble High School’s planned additions and renovations;

  • a Summer Creek High School classroom addition;

  • fine arts additions and renovations at high schools and middle schools;

  • career and technical education classroom and lab renovations at high schools and middle schools;

  • turf at high school baseball and softball fields;

  • replacement campuses for Sterling Middle School and Foster Elementary School;

  • the construction of Middle School No. 11;

  • a Summerwood Elementary School classroom addition;

  • practice gyms at Atascocita, Creekwood, Humble, Riverwood, and Timberwood middle schools;

  • dance classrooms at all middle schools;

  • new outdoor play and fitness equipment throughout the district;

  • the addition of daylighting through windows or skylights at elementary and middle schools; and

  • a child nutrition work area renovation.

Mount noted there would be no tax rate increase associated with the bond if trustees voted to call for the election.

The Feb. 15 board meeting will begin at 7 p.m. at Humble ISD’s Board, Business & Technology Center, located at 20200 Eastway Village Drive. The meeting can be viewed live online at www.humbleisd.net/boardmeetinglive.
