The city of Katy has canceled its May election after the mayoral race—the only race on the ballot—went uncontested. City officials said William "Dusty" Thiele was the only candidate that filed for the mayoral race, which was set to take place May 7. Without any other candidates, Thiele will take the mayoral position, officials said. Thiele will replace Bill Hastings, who did not seek re-election, in May.

The last day to file for a spot on the ballot was Feb. 18. Thiele's swearing-in ceremony will take place during a special City Council meeting, which will take place between May 10-18, according to the city's online election details.

Thiele was appointed in Katy City Council in November 2020 to fill a vacancy in Ward A but did not seek re-election in the 2021 race. His term will last three years.
