The Katy ISD board of trustees chartered a committee at its July 25 meeting that will handle the naming of the district’s second football stadium.

KISD Board President Rebecca Fox said the committee members will come from all regions of the Katy area.

The formation of the committee was in response to a survey conducted July 7-19 through third-party company K12 Insight. The results were delivered at the meeting by Andrea Grooms, KISD’s chief officer for communications.

Grooms said the survey got more than 5,600 responses and 57 percent of participants were in favor of the district selling the naming rights to the second stadium while 43 percent were in favor of naming the stadium after characteristic of the district.

“When you’re looking at a couple million dollars or $1.5 million and you think about what the impact that could have, it’s hard to turn away from that,” Fox said.

Fox said a committee recommendation to the board of trustees is expected to come by December.
