Hindt, who took over as the district’s new superintendent Aug. 1, arrived early to Bethke Elementary School, one of KISD’s three new schools opening this year. Hindt welcomed students and parents, interacted with teachers and discussed the first day of school with members of the media. “This is a phenomenal school district,” Hindt said. “I have not yet seen a teacher or a student that’s not happy to be back.” Hindt, who was scheduled to make appearances at several other schools throughout the day, said he views active participation as one of the most important aspects of his duties as superintendent. “I’m so fortunate that our school board expects me to be at schools and at campuses, and I’m looking forward to it,” he said. “I’ve already blocked out every Friday so that I can get out to the schools [and] attend pep rallies. It’s going to be an exciting school year.” Hindt also said he wants to foster a positive environment in which KISD can continue its fast-paced growth and success. “We’re welcoming probably about 75,500 kids today,” he said. “I think the more [students] we can get into our schools, then I know that we’re developing the leaders of the future here in Katy ISD.”
