Katy City Council approved bond funds for a project to widen Morton Road at its Jan. 10 meeting.
The project, which is estimated to cost $7.66 million, will widen Morton Road from Katy Hockley Road to Pitts Road. When complete, the road will increase from a two-lane road to a four-lane undivided road with additional drainage improvements. The project will also include a new bridge crossing over the Cane Island Branch of Buffalo Bayou.
The widening project will be one of nine transportation projects being executed throughout the city, after City Council approved $33 million in transportation funding from the Metropolitan Transit Authority of Harris County and Katy Development Authority funds; $23.05 million in funding will come from the city's agreement with METRO, with $10.47 million coming from cash funds.
On Jan. 7, the KDA approved the sale of the bonds, which will take place in February. After the bonds are sold, the KDA will begin authorizing the projects and the design phase will begin.
