The 2023 results, which were released Dec. 12, show the population in the city of Fulshear grew 247.44% between the 2023 and 2018 five-year estimates. The city’s population reached 26,986, which is higher than Katy’s 23,900 residents.
Additionally, the area within Katy ISD and Lamar Consolidated ISD’s boundaries has gained almost 104,000 new residents since 2018, according to the data.The city of Katy and the area within LCISD have grown 30% and 32%, respectively, over the last five years. However, the greatest percentage increase happened within the city of Fulshear, which saw a 237% increase over that time period, according to the data.

Meanwhile, the data shows the demographics in these four areas is becoming more diverse, with the percentage of white residents decreasing over the five-year period.Of the four geographic areas, LCISD’s boundary has the most diverse demographics, or the highest percentage of non-white residents, per the data. However, the highest percentage of the area’s residents, 33.3%, are white, followed by Hispanic or Latino residents at 32.9% of the population.Digging deeper
When it comes to the age of the Katy area, the city of Fulshear has the highest percentage of school-age children—those between the ages 0-19—at 38.1% of residents, per the data. This is slightly higher than in the city’s 2018 data, where 37.14% of residents were in that age group.Additionally, Fulshear’s next largest age group is 40- to 49-year-olds at 30%, surpassing the other three geographic areas for this age range, per the data.
Meanwhile, the city of Katy has the largest percentage, 18.9%, of retirement-age residents, or those age 60 and older, among the geographic areas. However, this was a decline since 2018, where 19.2% of Katy residents were in that age group.
This age group has also grown almost four percentage points in the city of Fulshear since 2018 data.
