A livestock show and auction being hosted by the Lamar High School FFA on April 28-30 is seeking to raise $75,000 in funds, which officials said will help the group complete interior work on a new barn on school grounds.

Construction on the barn finished in late 2021, said Karla Epperson, parent-booster liaison for the FFA. Now the FFA is looking to raise funds for pens and watering facilities for the animals, among other needs, she said.

The livestock show is the 62nd to be hosted by the Lamar FFA. The livestock show itself—where students present the animals they have been raising all year to be judged—takes place at 5 p.m. April 28 on the Lamar High School front lawn.

Student presentations will include steer, lambs, goats, pigs, rabbits and chickens alongside creative arts and horticulture projects. Grand champion and reserve champion buckles will be awarded for each category as well as showmanship buckles for select categories.

A scholarship barbecue cook-off is slated for 5 p.m. April 29 at Lamar. The live auction is set for 7 p.m. April 30 and will be preceded by a ticketed reception and silent auction that will take place at 4 p.m. at Pinstripes, 3300 Kirby Drive, Houston.

An event page has been set up online, where buyers can preregister for the auction, bid for silent auction items, make donations and buy tables at the event. Guests who are not able to purchase animals can still donate to the cause with an option that allows them to specify a donation for the barn's build-out, Epperson said.

Lamar High School is located at 3325 Westheimer Road, Houston, between Kirby Drive and Buffalo Speedway.
