Whether it's live entertainment, family-friendly fun, outdoor markets or unique cultural experiences, there's no shortage of ways to make the most of late summer.
From the Heights to River Oaks and Montrose, these six events taking place in August and early September offer plenty of opportunities to explore some of Houston's most vibrant neighborhoods before the season begins to change. This list is not comprehensive, and details are subject to change.
WILD: A Collaboration Exhibition
Women in the Visual and Literary Arts will present “Wild," a collaboration between writers and artists of the program. The concept speaks to what is untamed, instinctive and uncontained. Pieces will include painting, sculpture, photography and mixed media.

Froggy Night
Hop on over to the Houston Arboretum & Nature Center to enjoy frog-themed snacks, coffee and Saint Arnold Brewing Company beer while learning about the world of frogs. Guests will learn from instructor Cassidy Johnson about why frogs croak for courtship and their mysterious metamorphosis. This event is 21 and up.
The Wellness Edit
Join the River Oaks District for a morning dedicated to movement, wellness and self-care. Guests can begin the day with an energizing Vinyasa yoga class followed by a curated selection of wellness experiences featuring the shopping center’s tenants. Healthy refreshments and giveaways will also be available.
Houston Theater Week
Presented by Huntington Bank, the annual event kicks off this August. Participants can score exclusive deals and discounts to live performances across the city. Consumers can take advantage of buy-one, get-one free tickets across all genres of music, dance, opera and theater.
Mariachi Festival
Residents can celebrate talent rising in the community as the energy of Houston’s own collegiate and high school stars takes the stage to kick off the 2026 festival. Performances include the UH Mariachi Pumas, High School All-Star Mariachi Group and Danzas Folkloricas de Solei. Guests are encouraged to wear guayaberas and traditional Mexican dresses.
Trail Mix
The fall edition of Trail Mix at M-K-T features live music and magic in the great outdoors. AndyRoo will lead a morning of melodies along with Dave & Jake Rangel Magic. Various activities and giveaways from Tutu School and Mendocino Farms will also occur throughout the event.
