Don't be misled by the term "country club," because Montrose Country Club is much more than that, owner Jeff Harmon said in a March 13 news release.

The details

Despite being called a country club, Harmon wants to let people know that it's more than merely a bar with food. It's a casual neighborhood restaurant featuring a chef-driven menu, cocktails and a 65-by-25-foot pool with a day and nightlife all merged into one venue with no membership required.

Located on Tuam Street, Montrose Country Club is the latest venture by Harmon, who is known for opening Halo, Revelry, ReBar and Rich's Houston.

How it works

Day club and swimming pool access will be available for $20 before noon and $25 after noon. While annual memberships are not required, there are a few membership packages with their own perks:
  • The Founders Membership package: $499 a year comes with special event access and 10% off daybed rentals.
  • VIP Membership: $750 a year includes all Founders perks plus exclusive access to reserved lounging for the member and a guest.
“The addition of the swimming pool and day club is an exciting milestone for the continuing evolution of Montrose," Harmon said. “Not only have we created a unique and beautiful amenity for our guests, but we have also fashioned a menu, vibe and overall craft-casual restaurant that we think will strongly resonate with locals and visitors alike. If you want to create an elevated space, you must provide an elevated product. I feel confident that our guests will recognize and appreciate our dedication to the neighborhood we serve.”

What's on the menu

The dining experience is led by Executive Chef Diego Chiarello, who grew up in Sicily and has worked as a pastry chef in Manhattan restaurant, Cafeteria, and later moving to Houston where he opened up La Sicilia Italian Bakery & Cafe.

At the Montrose Country Club, Chiarello is merging Italian influences with southern and Cajun flavors. The menu boasts enticing shareables such as shrimp ceviche, crawfish egg rolls and fried goat cheese balls. A selection of hearty salads includes Italian chopped, grilled caesar and Cobb.

The menu also features signature favorites like the Montrose Club Sandwich and MCC Burger, with lighter sides such as sautéed spinach and roasted carrots.

The dessert menu includes churro cheesecake egg rolls, chocolate chip and caramel skillet, southern peach cobbler and tiramisu.
